Wǔ Fēnzhōng explores the potential of untrained body, cross cultural language and gesture, and perception and expectation about time.
Commissioned by ICU Modern Dance Society, Shinohara worked with 12 dancers (with little traditional training) to create this 30-minute-long piece with repetitive gestures, time control by cell phone, immersive experience with audience facing each other, and some texts read in Japanese and Mandarin.
